All About Me
7/20/07
I'm a 24-year-old graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill (Class of 2005) who majored in Journalism and Mass Communication (public relations sequence). I'm currently a public relations assistant and the in-house writer for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, where I've worked since May 2006. I previously interned with MLB.com during the 2005 baseball season, writing for the New York Yankees and Mets Web sites and notably covering the Yankees' five-game loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the American League Division Series. I also performed full beat coverage for the Pittsburgh Pirates (two series) and Kansas City Royals (one). At UNC, I wrote for the student daily newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel. Highlights of my DTH career included covering the 2005 Final Four in St. Louis and writing a weekly sports column, View From the Couch. Selections from all media can be found in my portfolio.
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY as a huge sports fan. I've been going to Mets games since I was a month old — ask my mom! — and have been reading the sports section of The New York Times since I was in the third grade. I also read a great deal of fiction, swear by Neil Gaiman's American Gods, and most recently read Nabakov's Lolita.
In high school, I discovered that I love to write. I started with fiction writing (short stories) and moved on to try my hand at news- and playwriting. I've done poetry on the side the whole time, recently focusing on spoken word. I'm affiliated with an Oneonta collective called The Intangibles. If you are interested in that side of me, you can browse my casual Web site, The BC Barbershop. Any visitors should keep in mind that site is designed by a 20-something, for other 20-somethings.
My musical tastes include artists like Green Day and NaS, as well as musicals like Rent — a testament to the diverse envrionment that I grew up in. My three best friends growing up (and presently) were named 'Aamir, Anwar and Shapel. I went to high school at Stuyvesant in Manhattan and spent my 2004 spring semester of college studying abroad at the Frei University in Berlin, Germany. I attended two Hertha BSC soccer games as a reporter and wrote a humor column about the experience. That column can be found at The BC Barbershop or by clicking here.
