I've
been to gay bars as a straight dude,
am a hiphop head with an ear for musical theater,
was in a frat,
grew up in the hood,
am more Jewish than most of my friends,
and am not Jewish enough for some.

I've had three black best friends
dating back to the sixth grade,
hang out with a lot of white people,
get along well with Asians
and have even dated Latina.

See,
I seem to have trouble fitting in,
because I don't seem to fit in
to the categories people want me to fit in.
So instead,
I choose to sit in
on these prejudiced lines
that are supposed to describe
the way I should
look, act, think, feel, dress
and decide
what to do
because I'm white
or a Jew
or a poet
or went to college
or like sports
or like to sport
attitudes
like how I'm better than you
because I'm from Brooklyn ...
and that's just how we do.

See,
we
spew jewels
for fools
who deserve pyrite pools
for the gold star scars
that mar
as brain drools
ignorant thoughts
and unwritten rules
for behavior modifications
we're supposed to go through
because this type of person
simply does
not
compute.

So try to rewire
the math higher-
level complexities
stoking the fire
and inspires
me to soar higher
above dire
mindsets
that project
ignorance pyres
that burn brightly below
heightened enlightened
senses of self.

And as for myself,
I know my-self,
and you can find proof on my shelf,
where you'll see search for self
in textual form
with no natural classification system
to be drawn.
And that
is okay with me.

See,
Just because I don't belong to
any categories,
doesn't mean I belong to
all categories
it just means I'm not bound by
your categories.
So instead, let's play scattegories
and sit still
silently seeking
silk sheets to sheath
synapses snapping and sealing
spent shells of sit-ins staged so speedily
they stir
social
change.

So let's rearrange
the social situation we're sitting in
by splitting in
to the fragmented pieces that fit in
to our own cohesive whole
and remember
that as many ways as our attention is divided
it still resides in one soul.

And while where you're from
defines where you're at,
it ain't where you're from,
it's where ya at.
So I'ma ask,
"Is this your time to sit back?
Or are you all coming with me,
as I sit in
and act?"
