the souls of men
wrapping them up tight

layers of lost lost
distinct auras of disintegrating distrust

leave them labelled as losers, neutered and broke
spent shells of past selves
callow, crumbled and unable to cope
when they get in
to situations with hope
hopin' to open
a relationship with no string
strung high, hung dry
above love's abyss with no net or alibi
swinging women

grip so they slip
away easily, hearts shredded and ripped
split in pieces
to be picked up off the ground, found
and reassembled from raw strips.

So the vicious cycle begins again anew
and these women grow distant, cold, closed-off and blue
unable to love someone they know they should be able to
so they crash in
to dead end
relationships they don't plan to see through.

So now I
must try
to apologize for discriminating by line two
because I think I
just proved the guys earned a very well-deserved "fuck you"
of their own, too.
And now that I said it there's only one thing to do:
look to the left and the right of you, too
'til you spot somebody new
and introduce
yourselves to each other and smother the crude
impulse to insult
the potential partnership you could dive in to
as friends
