The 2001 AL Cy Young

...The Cy Young? Now don't get me started there... Why not? Oy. Here goes... Roger Clemens won it... But he shouldn't have... What? Don't gimme that 20-3 garbage. I could win 20 games if my team was scoring 6.58 runs in the games I pitched... Stop with the "20 and 1 start" business... The man didn't lead the league in any major pitching catergory except for winning percentage, not to mention that he was 9th in ERA! He placed third in strikeouts, one behind teammate Mike Mussina... Now Mussina is the key here... How? Whadya mean, how? It's plain as day... Lemme explain... Mussina was in the top 5 in all three Triple Crown catergories, just like Clemens... He had more complete games and shutouts(4-0, 3-0, respectively), a better ERA by nearly half a run, gave up 8 less runs (6 earned), 3 less hits, gave up one more home run, allowed 30 less walks, bested clemens in opponents OBP (.274 to .309) AND batting average (.237 to .246), not to mention winning only 3 less games with 2 full runs less per in support!! Stop throwing stats at you? I haven't done anything but show that Clemens and Mussina, save for ONE CATERGORY (winning percentage) had nearly identical seasons, with a slight statiscal edge going to Mussina?? That, my friend, is exactly what I was trying to prove? Whadaya mean, why? Hmph... I guess I'm gonna hafta lay this out for ya, huh? If Mike Mussina was just as good, if not better, than Roger Clemens this year, then you can successfully make the arguement that Clemens was not the best pitcher on his own team!! Much like I just did... And with that said, how can you say he was the best pitcher in the league if he isn't the best pitcher on his own staff?!? I'm not saying who shoulda won, just that it shouldn't have been Clemens... The real winner is a whole different story...
