Clipped
Country Summer
We lay there on the blanket, at the corner of now and forever. Heads touching just above the temple, staring at the stars. A million thoughts and things to say come and go, floating effervescent through the musky air. It’s funny how one moment can hold so much.
The last falling star of the meteor shower dropped below the horizon. There was a twinkle from a star sitting solitary in the summer sky. I propped myself up on my elbows.
“You know, that twinkle happened years ago. And we only see it now. That’s the damndest thing.”
Laurie rolled onto her side and chuckled.
“No… The damndest thing is you noticing shit like that. Shut the fuck up.”
Her eyes sparkled mischievously. I winked and half-smiled.
“You know you love it.”
“Yea I do…”
It was the stars’ turn to watch as we shared a soft kiss. I broke off and pulled back. Her face six inches from mine, I could feel her sweet breath rolling across my face.
“Mmmm…” She closed her eyes and breathed deeply, savoring the moment.
“Damn straight. Care for seconds?” I asked, with full knowledge of the answer. The devil-may-care grin on her face said it all. How could I turn that down?
